Fashion Masks?:
The reality is we all are going to be required to wear masks when we go to enclosed spaces such as grocery stores or Menards (school?!!!). So why not make your mask personal?
Create a mask design:
The reality is we all are going to be required to wear masks when we go to enclosed spaces such as grocery stores or Menards (school?!!!). So why not make your mask personal?
Create a mask design:
- Look at the website called Threadless for mask ideas done by other artists.
- Some of these masks have recognizable images, some have designs, and some have words/messages.
- Your mask should reflect something personal about you. Your interests? Your thoughts? Your concept of beauty? A thoughtful quote?
- You will need to draw a mask actual size on a piece of paper, and then draw/paint/color your "art" onto it. (you may also creatively draw on anything that looks like it could be used for a mask... paper towel, cut out fabric, etc.)
- Written Reflection: Write reflection paragraph stating what this mask says about your personally. Also reflect on your reaction to needing to wear a mask during these "unprecedented times"
- If you are ambitious and want to make an actual fabric mask design you may. But you are not required to. Good luck with that.
Corona-virus Tattoos?!!
Yes, people are really getting tattoos in response to Covid-19. So lets have a little fun designing a Corona-virus tattoo.

Option #2:
Yes, people are really getting tattoos in response to Covid-19. So lets have a little fun designing a Corona-virus tattoo.
NOTICE!!!! I do NOT want you to get a tattoo! This is just for fun!
Option #1:
- Check out this Corona-virus tattoo website for ideas.
- Design your own corona-virus tattoo. You can think about symbols used during this time, like toilet paper, or the actual image of the virus. Or you can think about imagery that relates to your experience... like maybe you worked on puzzles a lot or spent way too much time watching NetFlix? Be creative!
- Draw this design on a piece of paper. Think about the bold use of black outline and other solid areas of color.
- If you have a sharpie marker, maybe you can draw it on your own skin. Just make sure it is temporary.
Option #2:
- Don't feel like drawing? Read this short tattoo article and watch this tattoo video.
- Respond to the following questions...
- 1. In the article... what are a couple of reasons for why Chris gets tattoo?
- 2. Name one tattoo Chris got during the "lockdown" and state what it symbolizes.
- 3. Why does Chris use the technique of "hand poking" to create his tattoos?
- 4. What makes the"Sea Wolf Tattoo Co," different than most traditional tattoo shops?
- 5. Describe the "style" of tattoos that "Sea Wolf" likes to create/design.
- 6. What is "flash"?
- 7. Why does "Sea Wolf" like to use bold outlines in his work?
- 8. What is your reaction to tattoo art? Is it trashy? Is it art? Explain your response.
- 9. Do you respect people with tattoo's? Do you respect tattoo artists? Explain your response.
April 27th-May 1st Assignments
Create an Artwork:
This week we are going 3D. (even if you are in a 2D class!) You will need an apple and a knife for this project. You could also use a potato or some other fruit/vegetable. Prepare to be frustrated, but have fun and don't take this too serious. You will need to take a photograph of your results.

- Create a "Carved Apple Head"
- *Watch the YouTube video link for a simple demonstration on how you can do this. "Shrunken Apple Head Sculpture"
- It will take a little while for the faces to shrivel up if you hang them in a window. An oven will speed up the process, but be careful doing it that way.
- Don't get too frustrated. Feel free to only do an eye, or do a skull, or some other design.
- If you want to take it to the next level, try to make a "Toilet Paper Roll Face."
- *Photograph your sculpture and send me a pic. Sketch it if you don't have a camera. Write 3-4 sentences describing your experience.
